20 years on from hanging up my camera and packing away my small darkroom, I have re found my passion for photography again. One Sunday afternoon whilst clearing out my roof loft I stumbled over a few boxes of slides, Black and White prints, Cokin filters and various other camera and darkroom equipment. I then got that ‘Aha’ moment. So here is the start of my Digital encounter with photography.
I tell anyone who will listen that I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur photographer. I have never aspired to become a professional photographer in any way shape or form. However, what I do aspire to is taking great photo’s, editing them to be able to look back on.
How it all started…
This story starts many years ago 1984 to be exact when I bought my first SLR camera. A work colleague who was a keen amateur photographer (LRPS) introduced me to the hobby of photography, and so I purchased my first camera, a Praktica MTL3. I joined a local camera club in Beverly, The f4 group, a fantastic group of photographers mainly shooting transparency film. I did a couple of courses, Introduction to Black & White developing and printing and a course on Studio Photography.
Getting Into The Digital era…
2019 marks the start of my digital journey, SD Cards, Lightroom, PhotoShop, Photo printer. No more developers, fixers and wetting agents, the Patterson Developing tanks and hours under a red light. I’ve just remembered how I miss that smell of a darkroom… I can’t wait to do it all again in the Digital format. Let the journey begin.
